Thousands of people in Kariba district are estimated to have benefitted from Save the Children’s road campaign against COVID-19. The campaign supported by USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance was conducted during a period the district witnessed a spike in COVID-19 cases and deaths leading to the Government of Zimbabwe announcing a two week localized lockdown for the district.

Thilivhali Vanessa Msipa, a Child Parliamentarian from Zimbabwe participated in the 2021 High Level Political Forum Side Event organised by Save the Children and UNICEF. The event facilitated an engaging debate around child-sensitive social protection, bringing together children and key stakeholders from various parts of the world in an interactive, inter-generational dialogue. The side event which was held virtually, was an opportunity to share good practices, identify new and emerging issues, and discuss how the SDGs can be used as a framework to guide recovery from COVID-19.

Save the Children recently embarked on radio campaign aiming to raise awareness on child online safety. The radio campaign is part of the Spotlight Initiative funded UNICEF project which seek to end online and offline violence against women and girls. The programme is being aired on ZiFM Stereo which is one of the biggest radio stations in Zimbabwe with a wide listenership.

To enhance disaster preparedness and emergency response systems. Save the Children under the Humanitarian Fund Project recently procured a drone and five staff members were trained on Geographic Information System (GIS) and use of drones to advance humanitarian work before, during and after emergencies.

Day of the African Child falls on the 16th of June every year. The day comes as an opportunity to raise awareness on the ongoing need to work towards the realisation of the rights of all African Children. This year’s celebrations were held under the theme: “30 Years after the adoption of the Charter: accelerate the implementation of Agenda 2040 for an Africa fit for Children.” To commemorate this day, Junior Parliamentarians advocated for and Africa fit for children through art.
