IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON CHILDREN LIVING WITH DISABILITES: BRADLEY’S STORY

Bradley was born with spina bifida, which comes with a range of health complications, including bowel incontinence. He also has a clubfoot, and hydrocephalus, which means he has a shunt (medical device) fixed to his head to drain excess fluid from his head. Due to his condition, Bradley is particularly vulnerable to the impact of COVID-19.

Ensuring Safety of Children in the COVID-19 Era

When her father passed away in 2018, McClean’s family was forced to move out of their house as they could not afford to pay rent. Since then her mother been struggling to provide for her five children, as well as send them to school. 10 year old McClean lives with her mother and siblings in Seke rural area which lies approximately 40 kilometres east of the capital city, Harare.

Supporting Children in the Covid-19 Era

To support children like Shamiso in the era of COVID-19, Save the Children in Zimbabwe's education programme is implementing the" Education Cannot Wait" Campaign in Epworth and Chitungwiza town.  The thrust of the campaign is to raise awareness on COVID-19, provide psychosocial support to children and their families  and pave ground for home schooling to ensure learning continues at home.
